Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to paste a real token into the JWT decoder?
Decoding happens only in your browser and the token is never sent to a server. Keep in mind that a JWT payload is encoded, not encrypted, so avoid exposing production tokens on shared screens.
Can I use MD5 or SHA256 to store passwords?
Not recommended. MD5 and the SHA family are fast to compute, which makes them weak against brute-force attacks. Use deliberately slow algorithms such as bcrypt, scrypt, or Argon2 for passwords, and use the hash generator for checking file integrity.
What's the difference between UUID v1 and v4?
v1 is built from the creation time and device information, so it sorts by time but can reveal when and where it was created. v4 is random and hard to guess, which makes it the most common choice for general identifiers.
